It is a pleasure and honor to become the new president of the North Coast Chapter of CNPS. In a time where the California environment and native plants are under increasing pressures, one can easily find oneself in a state of perennial gloom. Fortunately, I fervently believe that small groups of committed individuals can and do make great strides in protecting this states vital natural resources. I derive essential hope and inspiration from working with so many dedicated, tenacious, and effective CNPS members. On that note I wish to thank John McRae for his past tenure as President and for his years of tireless service to CNPS. John, bless his soul, will continue on as Education chair and coordinating plants sales. I also wish to thank Bruce Bingham who is leaving the board after almost 20 years of dedicated service. Thank you Bruce for all your hard work! It is a pleasure to announce that Ken Anderson has joined the board as Secretary, a position that has been vacant for a few years, and Andrea Pickart as our new conservation chair. The north coast Chapter of CNPS is very happy to have them on board.
Many challenges lie ahead for the protection of native plants, not the least of which is the weakening of state and federal environmental regulations. CNPS needs your help. If you would like to work on any aspect of CNPS s goals, please join us. We are always in need of plant lovers, volunteers, board members, and other interested people with energy.
